Our Story: Empowering Autism Care with Accessible Resources and Support
Who We Are
Albert’s Haven Autism Foundation is a Ghana-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals with autism and their families through respite care, transition support, caregiver empowerment, and community advocacy. Founded by Ato and Effuah Brown, the Foundation is inspired by their personal journey raising their autistic, nonverbal son, Albert — and a deep commitment to creating the kind of compassionate, community-rooted care that is essential yet often hard to find.
Our Story
Albert was diagnosed with autism as a child, and his journey inspired a vision. After Ato retired from the World Bank, the Browns returned to Ghana with a mission to build a safe, nurturing environment for families navigating the complexities of autism. In 2023, the first phase of Albert’s Haven Respite Center was completed in Aseseeso — on the foothills of the Akwapim Mountains — offering a peaceful space for autistic individuals, caregivers, and professionals to learn, rest, and grow together.

At Albert’s Haven Autism Foundation, our mission is to provide compassionate, personalized support that empowers individuals with autism, nurtures families, and strengthens caregiving communities. We are committed to creating safe, welcoming spaces where every individual can thrive and caregivers feels seen, supported, and equipped to make a lasting impact.
In Ghana and across Africa, families of children with autism often face isolation, stigma, and limited access to care. Albert’s Haven exists to create a place where autism is understood, supported, and embraced.
